Carolina, my host, has been an artist all her life. She paints on silk and creates mostly scarfs and pillows with either local flora and fauna or local indiginous symbols. Here are some examples of her work. She mixes the dyes to create the colors herself.
After she draws and then paints the silk, the dyes have to be fixed. I took a picture of the apparatus she uses to heat up the chemicals and drive the reaction. It looks like she's cooking meth or giant pasta noodlles right on her stove. After the dye is fixed the silk goes through one more wetting and drying cycle to create the finished product.

Her artwork is lovely- of course the large pipe on the stove is scary- hoepfully her kitchen is well ventilated- Tomorrow is Thursday which means Lacey should arrive- Enjoy her visit- We miss you and really feel so close since you are posting often to this site- keep it up! Aunt JoAnn
I agree. The whole stove apparatus looks scary and yes Lacey arrives this afternoon. Can't wait!
