Farmers, who traditionally are one of the wealthiest and most poweful groups, are protesting a hike in crop taxes. At the moment, agriculture is Argentina's primary industry. The strikes have started causing shortages in beef and milk.
Last night, there heaated speeches by both the agriculture union head and the president and people took to the streets to support the union with pots and pans. It's interesting to me because I think most of the protesters are economically better off with the taxes they are protesting. Here are some news stories about the protests:
