My first day is in the books and it was a good one. I woke up early and ran on the beach before having breakfast with Carolina (my host) and Daniel (another student).There was no time for my placement exam at the school so they tossed me into an advanced class starting to learn the subjunctive tense. I spent the afternoon and evening trying to catch up on new past, future, progressive, and perfect tenses. I´m clearly the worst student in the class but I think I´ll catch up.
I also bought a SIM card so now I have a local Mexican number for texting and calling. My Spanish was barely adequate for the transaction, but I made it. I even managed to (I think) turn off my voicemail and change the voice menus from Spanish to English (por ingles marque el numero 2).
Finally, at dinner I met some of Carolina´s family, her brother, Luis, and her son Jonathan. Carolina made pupusas, a Guatemalan dish from scratch, which was pretty cool. She´s awesome about speaking Spanishwith me and being patient.
